Robins

Look what the Robins Class got up to last year!

Robins Class visit to Dover Transport Museum

We finished our topic on the history of transport with a visit to Dover Transport Museum. The children saw lots of vehicles from the past, including some of the ones that we have studied at school. They also enjoyed looking at other artefacts and speaking to the lovely volunteers who work there. Well done Robins on representing the school so beautifully on our first class trip.

Big Cat Sanctuary Visit

Robins Class finished their work on mammals by visiting The Big Cat Sanctuary in Smarden. We had a closer look at their habitats as well as some artefacts relating to various types of big cats. In the afternoon we had a tour of the sanctuary and saw many rare species including white tigers and a pride of white lionesses. The children did a super job representing the school and we can't wait for our next trip to Canterbury Fire Station as part of our Great Fire of London topic.

Robins Running for the RNLI!

This year in Robins we are raising money for the RNLI. We will be visiting the lifeboat station in term 6 as part of our project and raisining awareness of water safety with the rest of the school. The children have been moving a mile every day and we have already reached £99 which is close to our £125 goal. Here are some of the ways in which the money is spent.
Where Your Fundraising Goes ?
Here's how your fundraising helps in practical, lifesaving ways:
  • £20 powers lifeboat stations
  • £33 provides essential crew safety gear
  • £50 fuels lifeboats for rescues
  • £90 funds a pair of iconic yellow wellies

By taking part in the Mayday Mile, you're helping to give RNLI volunteers all they need to save lives during their busiest season. If you would like to sponsor us, please follow the link below.

Trip to Canterbury Fire Station

This term Robins Class have been studying The Great Fire of London. As part of our work, we have been looking at how modern firefighting differs today from in 1666. The engines and equipment used at Canterbury Fire station couldn't have been more different to the leather buckets and water squirters of  London in 1666. We had a wonderful morning hearing all about the hard work of the modern fire service and we are looking forward to continuing our learning back at school.

Robins Visit the RNLI!

Our visit to the RNLI taught us where the money we raised from our 'May Day Mile' will be spent. Davis, Ruth and Sue explained to use that the special tractor that pulled the lifeboat actually cost three times as much as the boat itself!

We raised £169.65 and we will place the collection box in the school office in the hope of raising even more! We received a medal for all our hard work.

We found out lots about the work of the RNLI and how to stay safe at sea. We will share some of this important information by making posters and doing a class worship for our friends at school.

Our trip not only tied in with our project, but also our Geography topic on seas and coastlines. We saw the harbor and the sea wall as well as tourist spots like Whitstable Castle, where we purchased ice cream!
